The Foundation was formed at Blackwell to raise money for items not funded through the school budget. Our current goal is technology, in the form of SMARTboards for every classroom, although we hope to add other projects as we grow. The movie nights, silent auction at fall festival and chick-fil-a mornings have all been successful, although we need to do more. In these tough economic times, finding new sources of funding through grants is imperative. We would love to develop a team that can search for grant opportunities and prepare the necessary paperwork to apply for these grants.
We will meet on Tuesday, February 10th at 6pm in the Conference Room and on Tuesday, April 14th at 6pm as well.
Please contact me at hale620@bellsouth.net or 770-591-2057 if you are interested in helping.
Thanks very much,
Julie Hale

Frequently Asked Questions
Why was the Blackwell Foundation started?
The Blackwell Foundation was established in November 2007 to further enhance the educational experiences of the children at Blackwell Elementary. The Foundation will initially focus on plans to increase technology in our classrooms with interactive white boards. We look forward to working with the school administration to identify future projects.
What is the difference between the Foundation and the PTA?
The Foundation has a very specific set of objectives; to raise money to fund technology and other programs to be identified in the future. The PTA is a much broader organization that supports the day to day educational programs of the school, and has very strict rules about funding. The Blackwell Foundation will work in conjunction with the PTA to provide our school with every opportunity for our children. The Foundation is a 501-C charity and all donations are tax deductible.
Does Cobb County provide funds for technology and other programs?
The answer is Yes and no. The county does provide some support for technology, science, art and foreign language starting in the eighth grade. A strong Foundation will provide our elementary school with the funding to have technology and other education enriching programs in our classrooms sooner rather an undetermined time in the future.
How will the foundation raise money?
The foundation will sponsor a few events each year, in addition to direct donations from the friends and families within Blackwell. We hope everyone will participate, especially if you feel strongly about the foundation objectives. We will also reach out to the business community and seek their support. We believe there is a positive connection between strong schools and strong communities. Help us spread the word as we work to strengthen the bonds in our community.
How can I help?
By volunteering your time, making a donation or attending fundraisers during the year, you will help the Foundation embrace our future … Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day. Check with your company to see if they match donations too!
